We heard toilet paper was having a moment, but today, a simple roll has inspired us to make the ultimate at home piñata for your Cinco de Mayo celebrations. We’ve partnered up with an independent Mexican bakery and lifestyle company, Pecado, to bring you these quick and easy piñatas which are sure to bring a smile to your little rockstar’s face, all from the comfort of your own home.
- Toilet Paper Tubes (save these from rolls you have used)
- Tissue Paper (3 colors)
- Craft Glue
- Treats for Filling
Start by cutting out a small circle out of tissue paper, you want it to be about half an inch bigger than the toilet paper roll. You’ll need one circle per piñata.
Now cut a small “x” in the center of each circle, this will help our candy fall out more easily. Cut slits all around the paper circle around half an inch long. Secure the four corners of the tissue paper around the toilet paper tube with some glue, just be careful not to pull too tight, or the “x” will rip.
Now, with another piece of tape, secure a string of ribbon right on top of the “x.” When the piñatas are finished, you’ll pull on this ribbon to release the candy. Make sure that you tape this part really well so all your candy will fall out.
Time to start decorating your fun little piñata. Stack your three colors of tissue paper, and then cut strips that are 2 inches or so. Once you have all your strips ready, you’ll want to cut slits in them in order to make the fringe. You can choose for these to be as thick or as thin as you prefer, just make sure it’s even throughout.
Now it’s time to add our fringe to our toilet roll. Just add a thin layer of glue to the top of your fringy tissue paper and start glueing it to your roll. You’ll want to start from the bottom and work your way up in a spiral. Once you run out of your first color you can move to the next one and so on.
You’re almost done, now you just have to fill your piñatas with some of your favorite candies or even a small toy and add a small piece of ribbon on the inside of the tube so you can hang your piñata.
You can hang up your piñata and whenever your little rockstars are ready, just have them pull on the bottom ribbon so all their treats will come pouring out. Make sure to take photos of your creations and tag us in your images using @hrhvallarta & #HardRockHotelsAtHome
